A note from the backyard
A Canadian backyard is never just a backyard.
It is a small piece of a much bigger living landscape.
Why Ontario Backyard exists
OntarioBackyard.ca is an independent Canadian nature and practical gardening publication dedicated to helping neighbours appreciate the plants, birds, insects and mammals just outside their doors.
We believe an inviting outdoor space can also support wildlife. Our articles encourage observation, native plants, responsible composting, sensible lawn care and humane coexistence with urban animals.
We focus on accessible, achievable ideas rather than perfection. Whether you have a balcony, a small city yard or a large garden, there is always something new to learn.
